The effigy is depicted truncated at the neck, set within a raised inner circle bordering the flat field. No legend or inscription appears on the obverse, consistent with the Bosporan royal coinage convention of this period. The portrait closely follows Roman imperial prototypes, displaying the characteristic physiognomy associated with Augustus on contemporary coinage. |

A royal monogram of King Aspurgus appears to the left of the portrait in the field. The Greek alphabetic date ΑΚΤ (321 of the Bosporan Era, corresponding to 25 AD) is placed below the bust. The inscription ΒΑΡ, an abbreviation for ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ (of the King), accompanies the legend, establishing the royal authority of Aspurgus. The reverse design, like the obverse, is contained within a raised inner circle. |
