| Descrizione del rovescio | Nike, the winged goddess of victory, stands in three-quarter view facing left, wearing a chiton and himation, and holds a wreath in her outstretched right hand and a palm frond over her left shoulder. She is depicted standing on a prow (aphlaston) of a warship, referencing naval victory, a motif closely associated with Bosporan royal coinage of this period. The Greek legend BAΣIΛEΩΣ AΣANΔPOY runs in two vertical columns flanking the figure, to the right and left respectively, identifying the issuer as King Asander. The regnal year numeral Z (= 7) appears in the lower field, corresponding to regnal year 7 of Asander's reign. The composition is bold and well-centered, executed in high relief with confident, fluid die work. |
