| Opis rewersu | Pegasus, the winged horse, depicted in a prancing pose facing left, with large outstretched wings rising dramatically above the body and the forelegs raised. A six-pointed star or astral symbol appears in the upper left field above the head of Pegasus. The musculature of the horse is rendered with vigour and precision, reflecting the high artistic standards of Syracusan die engravers of the early Hellenistic period. The flan is broad and slightly irregular, consistent with hammered coinage of this era. The field is otherwise plain and without legend. |
