| Obverse description | Eagle displayed in left profile, wings partially spread, perched atop a serpent or hare in the left field. The eagle, a sacred symbol of Zeus, is rendered in bold archaic relief typical of Elean coinage of the fifth century BC. The flan is irregular and slightly convex, with the design occupying the central field. The incuse square characteristic of early hammered coinage is visible on the periphery.
