背面描述 A square incuse punch of standard Archaic type, divided into four recessed quadrants by a raised cross, creating the characteristic windmill or skew pattern. The incuse square is deeply struck and well-centred within the irregular flan, with each quadrant exhibiting a slightly recessed, granular surface. No legend or subsidiary device is present; the design is entirely geometric, consistent with early Archaic coinage convention.

附加信息

Naxos was the largest and wealthiest of the Cycladic islands during the Archaic period, its prosperity built on marble quarrying and a dominant position in Aegean trade. That wealth ended abruptly in 490 BC when the Persian fleet under Datis razed the city and enslaved its population — a punitive expedition that preceded Marathon by weeks. Coins struck before that destruction and those after represent two very different economic realities on the same island.

The HGC listing as a variety suggests this piece diverges from the principal die sequence, likely in the incuse punch configuration on the reverse.
