The figure stands upon a low rectangular plinth or exergual line. To the right, the ethnic legend ΚΝΩΣΙΟΝ is inscribed vertically in Greek characters. To the left, a subsidiary device, possibly a plant or offering branch, is faintly visible in the field. The reverse composition reflects the strong Cretan artistic tradition of frontal deity representations. |
