| Beschrijving keerzijde | Minos or Zeus standing facing, bearded and draped, depicted frontally in the orans-like pose characteristic of Knossian staters of this period, holding a long sceptre or spear vertically in his right hand and extending his left arm outward. The figure stands upon a low rectangular plinth or exergual line. To the right, the ethnic legend ΚΝΩΣΙΟΝ is inscribed vertically in Greek characters. To the left, a subsidiary device, possibly a plant or offering branch, is faintly visible in the field. The reverse composition reflects the strong Cretan artistic tradition of frontal deity representations. |
