Obverse description Boeotian shield rendered in high relief, its characteristic concave cutouts flanking the upper field and the broad curved lower edge giving the device its distinctive form. The rim of the shield is articulated into twelve equal segments, delineated by short radial incisions, conveying the layered construction of the actual leather-and-bronze prototype. The surface of the shield boss is slightly convex and unadorned, occupying the central field. The striking is irregular in outline, as is typical of early Boeotian hammered coinage.

Reverse description Deep incuse square of archaic type, subdivided by a clockwise mill-sail or swastika-like pattern of four recessed arms radiating from the center, creating a dynamic rotational composition characteristic of early Greek coinage. At the center of the mill-sail pattern an archaic form of the letter phi (Φ) is incised, serving as an identifying civic symbol. The incuse technique, typical of early Boeotian silver issues of the late Archaic period, results in a boldly sunken geometric design contrasting with the raised obverse type.
