| Description du revers | The infant Herakles depicted in dynamic three-quarter view, seated or crouching on the ground, grasping and strangling two serpents, one in each hand, with his arms raised in vigorous struggle. The muscular infant figure is rendered with considerable sculptural energy, the snakes coiling around his arms and body. The composition fills the field boldly with no legend, presenting the mythological scene in the assured style of a skilled Krotoniate die-engraver. The incuse or flat field around the figure is plain, and a dotted border frames the type. |
