| Obverse description | Laureate head of Apollo facing right, rendered in fine late Classical style with flowing locks of hair falling behind the neck and a laurel wreath crowning the brow. The portrait exhibits high relief with carefully articulated facial features characteristic of South Italian die-engraving of the period. The Greek ethnic legend ΚΡΟΤΟΝΙΑΤΑΣ is inscribed in the field around the portrait, partially to the right and left of the effigy. The dotted border of the coin's circumference is visible along the edge of the flan. |
