| Beschrijving keerzijde | Facing left, the helmeted head of Athena is rendered in fine archaic-to-early classical style, with wavy locks of hair escaping beneath the bowl of her Corinthian helmet, which is pushed back on her head to reveal her face in three-quarter profile. The facial features are modeled with sensitivity, displaying the refined workmanship associated with Corinthian stater coinage of the early fourth century BC. In the field to the right, behind her head, appears a bucranium (ox skull), serving as a secondary symbol or magistrate's control mark. The reverse field is otherwise plain, and the coin is struck on a broad, slightly irregular flan consistent with hammered coinage of this period. |
