Kelenderis was a Cilician coastal city whose coinage from this period is notable for an unusually consistent series of horse-and-rider types, but the deeper interest lies in what the mint's output tells us about Cilician autonomy under loose Achaemenid suzerainty. Persian administrative control over the region was real but indirect; local dynasts and cities retained striking rights, and Kelenderis exercised them with enough regularity to produce a recognizable and datable sequence. The SNG Levante reference situates this piece within a well-documented Cilician cabinet, one of the more reliable anchors for attribution in a region where die studies remain incomplete.
