正面描述 Pegasos displayed in full flight to the left, rendered with outstretched, finely detailed straight wings and forelegs raised in dynamic posture. The winged horse is depicted in the Corinthian tradition common to Akarnanian coinages, with a muscular body and curled mane executed in high relief. The monogram Λ (lambda), denoting the civic abbreviation of Leukas, appears below in the lower field. The flan is broad and irregular, characteristic of hand-struck silver coinage of the mid-fourth century BC.

附加信息

Leukas occupied a strategically awkward position — technically an island after the Corinthians cut a canal through the isthmus connecting it to the mainland in the late 7th century, yet culturally and politically tied to the Corinthian colonial network throughout its history. That Corinthian connection explains the Pegasos coinage entirely: the type was a Corinthian export, adopted by its colonies as a mark of commercial alignment rather than imitation. Leukadian staters circulated widely across the Adriatic trade routes the city depended on.

BCD Akarnania 203 places this piece within a tightly sequenced die study by the collector BCD, whose Akarnanian holdings remain the benchmark reference for the series.
