This stater falls within the Corinthian War period, when Boeotia allied with Argos, Corinth, and Athens against Sparta — a remarkable reversal given Boeotia's collaboration with Persia during the Persian Wars less than a century earlier. The League's mint was active at Thebes throughout this conflict, producing silver coinage to fund military operations against a Spartan hegemony that would not fully collapse until Leuctra in 371 BC.
The Peace of Antalcidas in 387 BC dissolved the Boeotian League outright under Spartan pressure, making this among the final issues of the first League coinage sequence.
