Square unit - Hunnic tribes Kidarites Sassanian style, Gandhara mint

The Kidarites emerged from Hunnic migrations into Bactria and Gandhara during the mid-4th century, eventually displacing the Kushano-Sassanian governors who had themselves borrowed heavily from Iranian royal iconography. This square copper piece reflects that layered inheritance — the Kidarites adopted Sassanian stylistic conventions as a deliberate assertion of administrative legitimacy in a region where such imagery carried real political weight. Small copper squares of this type circulated at the lowest transactional level in Gandhara, and survival in any condition is modest given the corrosive soils of the region.
