The emperor holds a spear over his right shoulder and a shield decorated with a horseman motif is visible at the left. The surrounding Latin legend reads D N PLA VALENTI-NIANVS P F AVG, rendered in bold relief along the coin's border, consistent with the late Roman imperial portrait tradition emphasising divine authority and military might. |

| Description du revers | The emperor Valentinian III stands facing, en face, richly attired in jewelled consular robes and holding a long staff surmounted by a chi-rho christogram in his right hand and a mappa in his raised left hand. He is seated or standing upon a low suppedaneum, with VOT X flanking the left field and MVLT XX to the right, referencing his decennial and vicennial vows. The mint mark R M appears in the field flanking the figure, and the exergue bears the inscription COMOB, the standard guarantee of fine gold coinage. The composition reflects the late antique ceremonial style of Western imperial solidi struck at Rome. |
