| Obverse description | Facing bust of Emperor Theodosius II, slightly turned to the right, depicted in full imperial military attire: pearl-diademed and helmeted, wearing a cuirassed breastplate. The emperor holds a spear over his right shoulder and bears on his left arm a large round shield decorated with a horseman motif, rendered in the hieratic frontal style characteristic of late antique coinage. The obverse legend encircles the bust in Latin capitals. |

| Reverse description | Two enthroned figures rendered in the formal frontal style of late Roman imperial iconography: Theodosius II seated at center facing, and the young co-emperor Valentinian III standing at his side, both attired in elaborate consular robes. Theodosius holds a mappa in his right hand and a cruciform scepter in his left; a star appears in the upper field. The mint mark CONOB is inscribed in the exergue, denoting gold of the highest purity struck at Constantinople. The reverse legend is disposed in two registers flanking the imperial group. |
