| Description de l’avers | Frontal bust of Emperor Theodosius II, facing slightly to the right, pearl-diademed, helmeted, and cuirassed in the imperial military fashion. The emperor holds a spear diagonally over his right shoulder and bears a large round shield on his left arm, the shield decorated with a horseman motif rendered in the late antique style. The bust is executed in the characteristic rigid, hieratic manner of fifth-century Byzantine coinage, conveying imperial authority and divine sanction. The legend encircles the bust, identifying the emperor with his full imperial titulature. |

| Description du revers | The enthroned personification of Constantinopolis seated left, her left foot resting upon the prow of a galley, symbolizing naval dominance and the city's maritime power. She holds a long scepter in her left hand and raises a globus cruciger in her right, emblems of universal sovereignty under the Christian faith. A grounded shield rests at her side, and a star appears in the left field. The mintmark CONOB is placed in the exergue, indicating gold of the highest standard struck at Constantinople. The composition reflects the mature iconographic program of Theodosian court art. |
