| Beschrijving voorzijde | Frontal helmeted bust of Emperor Leo I, draped and cuirassed, presented in the three-quarter facing military style characteristic of late Roman imperial coinage. The emperor holds a spear diagonally over his right shoulder with the right hand, while his left shoulder bears a large round shield decorated in relief with a horseman motif depicting a mounted warrior riding down a fallen enemy. The obverse legend encircles the bust, rendered in Latin capitals. |

| Beschrijving keerzijde | Winged Victory personified stands facing left, her wings spread, clad in a long draped garment. She holds with her left hand a tall jewelled cross, its shaft extending to the ground, symbolising the Christian faith of the late Roman state. A star appears in the right field. The officina mark is incorporated at the end of the reverse legend, and the exergue bears the mint mark CONOB, denoting the Constantinople mint and the high-purity gold standard of the solidus. |
