Obverse description Right-facing bust of Emperor Gratian, adorned with an elaborate rosette diadem composed of rows of pearls and jeweled clusters, the hair rendered in detailed parallel striations behind. The emperor is depicted draped and cuirassed, the paludamentum fastened at the shoulder and the ornate jeweled cuirass visible at the truncation. The portrait conveys a youthful, idealized imperial effigy with finely modeled facial features characteristic of late Constantinian workshop style. The circumferential Latin legend reads D N GRATIA-NVS P F AVG, distributed across the field from lower left to upper right.
