Obverse description Conjoined facing busts of Constans II and Constantine IV arranged side by side. At left, the bearded bust of Constans II depicted frontally, wearing a chlamys and a crown surmounted by a cross and pendilia, with a distinctive long beard rendered in stylized Byzantine fashion. At right, the beardless bust of Constantine IV, also facing, similarly attired in chlamys and crowned with a cross. Between the two imperial effigies, a small cross occupies the central field, emphasizing the co-regency and dynastic legitimacy. The composition is characteristic of late seventh-century Byzantine die work, with flat, hieratic portraiture typical of Constantinopolitan solidus production.
