The shield is rendered in a bold, somewhat crude hammered style typical of mid-sixteenth-century provincial French coinage. A circular Latin legend runs along the entire periphery, separated from the central device by a beaded inner border. The coin exhibits the irregular flan characteristic of hand-struck production. |
