| Beschrijving voorzijde | A complex geometric design occupies the central field, dominated by a bold cross motif with hatched or striated arms radiating from a central junction. Between the quadrants formed by the cross, various ornamental devices are arranged, including a rope or twisted-cord element, teardrop-shaped pellets, and small leaf or bud-like forms. The border of the flan is decorated with a continuous wreath or pellet-and-arc motif typical of late Iron Age Celtic coinage. The overall style reflects the abstract, highly stylised artistic tradition of the Catuvellauni tribe. The design is known as the 'Muzzles' type, named for the distinctive decorative elements flanking the central cross. |
