Tasciovanos ruled the Catuvellauni from approximately 20 BC to 10 AD, making him one of the most powerful rulers in pre-Roman Britain and the father of Cunobelinus — the king Shakespeare loosely adapted into Cymbeline. His silver coinage marks a significant expansion of the Catuvellaunian monetary system, likely reflecting increased cross-Channel trade with Gaul and the growing influence of Roman economic practice filtering north through the tribal networks of southeast Britain.
