The Iceni occupied what is now Norfolk and parts of Suffolk, and their silver coinage emerged during a period of intense cross-Channel contact with Belgic Gaul — the corn ear motif likely reflects both agricultural wealth and deliberate stylistic borrowing from continental issues. This particular unit belongs to a phase of Iceni production before Roman conquest formalized the tribe's political status, after which coinage continued under client-king arrangements until Prasutagus died and his widow Boudica led the revolt of 60–61 AD that burned Camulodunum, Londinium, and Verulamium to the ground.
Van Arsdell 1555 is among the smaller denominations in the Iceni silver sequence, struck at weights that suggest deliberate fractional valuation rather than debased production.
