The "Gas Mask" unit belongs to a group of Iceni uninscribed silver coinage struck before Roman administrative pressure pushed British tribes toward named, attributed issues. The Iceni, occupying what is now Norfolk and Suffolk, maintained a distinct monetary tradition long after neighboring tribes began imitating continental prototypes more directly. These fractional silvers circulated in a region that would produce Boudica's revolt against Rome in 60–61 AD — a rebellion partly triggered by Roman seizure of Iceni lands and the flogging of the royal family following Prasutagus's death.
