The animal's mane is depicted with bold, undulating lines, and the limbs are rendered with stylised vigour. Below the horse, the abbreviated legend EPAT is inscribed in Latin characters, identifying the issuing ruler Epaticcus. The field above the horse is filled with linear decorative devices in the Celtic tradition. The overall design reflects the strong Gallo-Belgic artistic influence on Catuvellaunian silver coinage of the early first century AD. |
