The provincial coat of arms rests at his feet. The date appears in the legend, which runs along the outer periphery in Latin capital letters. The design is characteristic of the Dutch provincial silver ducat type, rendered in a robust Baroque style typical of mid-seventeenth-century Netherlands minting. |

The heraldic lion is depicted passant-rampant, facing left, within a quartered or plain shield surmounted by an elaborate crown whose arches are visible above. The mint mark of the Middelburg mint appears above the crown. The surrounding circular legend in Latin capital letters runs along the full circumference within a beaded border, with ornamental stops separating the words. |
