Obverse description Helmeted head of Menrva, the Etruscan goddess of wisdom and warfare, facing right, rendered in archaic Etruscan style with fine engraving detail visible on the helmet crest and cheekpiece. The bust is depicted with naturalistic facial features including a pronounced nose and lips, with locks of hair visible beneath the helmet rim. The Etruscan numeral denoting the denomination of 2½ asses appears in the field to the right of the effigy. The flan is characteristically irregular, as is typical of Populonian hammered silver coinage of this period.
