Obverse description Stylised three-line wreath rendered in debased La Tène artistic style, composed of radiating lines of pellets or cordons emanating from a central spiral boss. Flanking the central motif on each side is a corded, horn-like crescent, evoking the lunar or bovine symbolism characteristic of Belgic coinage. The field is further decorated with annulets and scroll ornaments dispersed across the flan.

Additional information

This fractional type belongs to a period of acute political pressure on the Atrebates following Caesar's two expeditions to Britain in 55 and 54 BC. Commios, the Atrebatean king who had served Caesar as an envoy before switching sides during the revolt of 52 BC, almost certainly presided over coinage production during part of this issue's date range — a detail that makes the tribal attribution simultaneously confident and historically charged.
