The hippocamp is rendered with detailed musculature, its equine forepart transitioning into a fish-tail body. Beneath the creature, stylized wave lines appear above a dolphin swimming to the right, symbolizing the sea domain central to Tyrian iconography. The scene is executed in fine archaic relief characteristic of Phoenician die-cutting of the early 4th century BC.
