The legend S P Q R / ADSERTORI / LIBERTATIS / PVBLICAE is boldly rendered in large capital letters filling the field. This type commemorates Vespasian as the restorer of public liberty following the civil wars of AD 69, with the Senate and Roman People formally honouring him as champion of that liberty. The oak-wreath border, just visible around the periphery, frames the text with symbolic resonance drawn from Rome's oldest republican traditions. |
