| Reverse description | The reverse is entirely occupied by a four-line Latin inscription displayed within a corona civica (civic oak-wreath), a deliberate reference to the traditional Roman honour awarded for saving citizens' lives. The legend S P Q R / ADSERTORI / LIBERTATIS / PVBLICAE is boldly rendered in large capital letters filling the field. This type commemorates Vespasian as the restorer of public liberty following the civil wars of AD 69, with the Senate and Roman People formally honouring him as champion of that liberty.
