| Beschrijving keerzijde | The goddess Ceres, fully draped in a stola and palla, stands facing left in a dignified contrapposto pose. In her extended right hand she holds two ears of grain downward over a modius — the cylindrical grain measure — placed to her left, symbolising agricultural abundance and the imperial provision of grain to the Roman populace. Her left hand grasps a long, vertical torch, a standard attribute of Ceres in her role as goddess of the harvest and of the underworld search for Proserpina. The reverse legend is divided, with S P Q R OPTIMO PRINCIPI arcing around the upper field and the senatorial authority mark S C flanking the lower field. |
