Parthamaspates stands to the left before the tribunal, while the kneeling female figure of Parthia, rendered in eastern dress, receives him in a gesture of submission. The composition commemorates the historically significant diplomatic and military event of 116 AD, when Trajan installed Parthamaspates as a Roman-backed ruler over Parthia. The legend REX PARTHIS DATVS appears in the field, with S C (Senatus Consultum) flanking the central scene, affirming senatorial authority for the issue. |
