| Beschrijving keerzijde | Standing male figure rendered in a frontal pose, slightly turned, wearing a short military tunic and depicted with arms outstretched; the figure holds a wreath or branch in the right hand and a cornucopia or sceptre in the left, in a posture reminiscent of Nike or a royal personification common to Bosporan bronze issues. To the lower left of the figure appears the large Greek letter M (= 40), and to the right the letter H (= 8), together denoting the denomination of 48 Bosporan units. The composition fills the field with no border legend, the denomination letters flanking the central figure in a plain, unadorned field. The artistic style is characteristic of provincial Bosporan engraving, with schematic anatomy and bold relief. The flan is irregular and the strike slightly off-centre, as is typical for hammered copper issues of this series. |
