| Reverse description | Depiction of a monumental triumphal arch rendered in three-quarter perspective, showing both the front facade and the left lateral face, richly ornamented with relief sculpture and architectural detailing. The attic of the arch bears statues of Mars and Pax flanking two soldiers, while the spandrels are decorated with additional figural elements. Crowning the composition, the Emperor is shown in a quadriga driven at a gallop, attended by the winged figure of Victory. The exergue is plain, and the reverse field carries the senatorial authorization mark S C in the open arch passage. This reverse type is associated with the Arcus Neronis, a triumphal arch voted by the Senate, and represents one of the most architecturally ambitious reverse designs of the early imperial sestertius series. |
