The composition is surrounded by an array of arms and military trophies arranged in the field and exergue. The reverse legend ROMA appears to the left and S C (Senatus Consultum) flanks the central design, denoting senatorial authorization for the issue. The overall design conveys the martial power and prestige of Rome under imperial authority. |
