The scene is rendered with remarkable spatial depth for Roman coinage, commemorating Nero's completion and expansion of the Claudian harbour works at Portus. The reverse legend, divided by the harbour design, records the dedication to the Augustan port of Ostia and the authorisation of the Senate. |
