| Obverse description | Bare-shouldered, laureate and bearded bust of Hadrian facing right, rendered with characteristic Hellenistic-influenced portraiture; the emperor's short, tightly curled hair is bound by a laurel wreath, and a paludamentum is visible at the base of the truncation. The effigy displays the emperor's distinctive full beard, an innovation in Roman imperial portraiture associated with Hadrian's philhellenic aesthetic. The encircling Latin legend reads HADRIANVS AVGVSTVS, running along the inner border of the coin's rim. |
