| 裏面の説明 | Neptune, the god of the sea, rendered standing in contrapposto facing left, his right foot raised and resting upon the prow of a ship (rostrum). In his right hand he holds an acrostolium (a naval ornament from the prow of a captured vessel), and in his left hand he grasps a long trident, the emblematic attribute of his divinity. The composition commemorates Hadrian's safe return by sea, and the large senatorial mark S C (Senatus Consultum) appears in the field to either side of the figure. |
