The emperor is depicted with a paludamentum fastened at the right shoulder, conveying his military authority. The composition is set within a plain field, with the senatorial authority mark S C (Senatus Consultum) flanking the central figure at left and right. The legend ROMA appears in the exergue below the seated figure. The scene is a classic personification type evoking the eternal power and martial spirit of the city of Rome, frequently employed on Julio-Claudian and early imperial bronze coinage. |
