She holds a pileus (liberty cap) in her raised right hand and a long sceptre or staff in her left hand, the classic iconographic attributes associated with the granting of freedom to slaves. The senatorial control mark S C (Senatus Consultum) is placed in the field to either side of the figure at mid-height. The legend LIBERTAS PVBLICA runs around the upper and left portion of the field in clear Latin capitals, proclaiming the restoration of public liberty under Galba following Nero's reign. |
