Gades — modern Cádiz — held a uniquely privileged position among Iberian cities under Augustus, having received Latin rights and a close institutional relationship with Rome well before most of the peninsula. This issue invokes Agrippa's third consulship of 27 BC, the same year Augustus received his title, tying the municipium's coinage directly to the political reorganization of the Roman world following Actium. Agrippa maintained strong personal ties to the western provinces, and his name on a provincial bronze from Gades was far from incidental — it carried real administrative weight in a city still navigating its status under the new order.
