The surrounding legend DIVVS AVGVSTVS PATER runs clockwise in raised Latin capitals along the periphery of the flan. The overall style reflects a deliberate archaism, evoking Augustan prototypes as part of Titus's programme of restoring earlier imperial coinage types. The flan shows characteristic irregularity and surface patination consistent with a bronze struck sestertius of the Flavian period. |
