توضیحات پشت سکه A horseman galloping at full pace to the left, seated bareback on a horse with legs fully extended, consistent with the dynamic equestrian imagery typical of Numidian royal coinage. A control dot appears either before or behind the horseman's foot depending on the die variety. Below the horse, a rectangular cartouche encloses a Punic legend reading 'SPhQ HMMLKT' (translating as 'Syphax the King'), serving as the royal titulature of the issuing monarch.

اطلاعات تکمیلی

Syphax ruled the Masaesyli tribe of western Numidia and spent much of his reign playing Rome and Carthage against each other with calculated opportunism — initially allying with Rome, then switching to Carthage after marrying Sophonisba, the daughter of the Carthaginian general Hasdrubal Gisco. That reversal ultimately cost him everything. Scipio defeated him at the Battle of the Great Plains in 203 BC, and Syphax died a Roman captive in Tibur shortly after. These bronzes were struck during the decades when his kingdom was at its greatest territorial extent.
