| Beschrijving keerzijde | Bold, roughly executed letters of the moneyer's name CVDHEARD arranged in a cruciform or radial pattern across the coin's field, a design convention common to Northumbrian sceats of this period. The legend + CVDHEARD is disposed around and through the central field, with individual letter forms exhibiting the angular, uncial character typical of early ninth-century Anglo-Saxon die-cutting. The flan is irregular and squared at the edges, with flat, slightly worn fields. No central device is present; the inscription itself constitutes the primary decorative element. This reverse identifies the moneyer as Cuthheard, one of the known moneyers active under Eardwulf's reign. |
