| Obverse description | The Portuguese royal coat of arms, crowned and displayed within a pointed shield, occupies the central field. The arms feature the characteristic quinas arrangement of the Portuguese escutcheon. The mint letters D and O flank the shield to the left and right respectively, serving as the Dio (Diu) mint mark. The design is rendered in the bold, somewhat crude style typical of hammered colonial gold coinage of the period. |

| Reverse description | A full-length frontal figure of Saint Thomas (São Tomé), patron saint of India, is depicted in a hieratic style with a nimbus or halo encircling his head.
