背面描述 Two-line Persian inscription in Nasta'liq script, divided by a horizontal line across the field, with the AH date 1153 appearing in the lower register. The legend reads: 'The coin gains in Herat the name and sign of Shahrukh,' identifying both the mint city and the issuing prince Shahrukh, grandson of Nader Shah. The numerals of the Hijri date are rendered in abjad-style Eastern Arabic numerals in the lower portion of the field. The flan is irregularly shaped and the strike is characteristic of hand-hammered Afsharid provincial coinage.

附加信息

Herat in 1741 occupied an uncomfortable position between collapsing Safavid authority and the rising power of Nader Shah's Afsharid empire. Shahrukh — grandson of Nader Shah — would later become the long-suffering ruler of Khorasan, blinded twice by rivals competing for what remained of Afsharid control. Whether this rupee predates his blinding or was struck during one of his intermittent periods of restored authority is a question the mint date alone cannot resolve.

Herat's mint was active across multiple dynasties precisely because the city functioned as the commercial hinge between Persia and Central Asia. Rupee-weight silver coinage here reflects trade networks rather than imperial convenience.
