| Obverse description | Hammered silver rupee of the Cis-Sutlej State of Kaithal, struck in the name of Mughal Emperor Shah Alam II under the authority of ruler Lal Singh (AH 1196-1234 / AD 1781-1819), representing the Elder Branch of the Patiala Royal Family. The field displays stylised Persian-script legends typical of late Mughal-derived coinage of the Sikh princely states, with cursive calligraphic strokes occupying the central area. The flan is irregular and slightly thickened at centre, characteristic of hand-struck issues of this period and region. The overall die workmanship reflects the provincial hammered tradition common to Cis-Sutlej Sikh states in the early nineteenth century. |
